Screen Printing

Exploring the process of water-based screenprinting, using both traditional and nontraditional methods of stencil making. My theme for the semester explored shadows and silhouettes.

Handmade Stencil

I picked a quote that I liked and designed a one-color, non-digital, typographic print. Using paint markers on clear mylar, I created a cute, uplifting print.

Multiplicity

I created a 3-color design and screen printed it, utilizing transparent inks and layering to create a multiplicity of colors. I chose to use silhouettes of my friends and I.

Halftones

I produced a 2-color (minimum) print that utilizes halftones to create various tones, textures, and depth in your design. Halftones are a pattern of dots used to create the illusion of a continuous tone or gradient. Halftones make it possible to print photographic images and are also a great way to add texture, tone, depth, and interest in shapes and patterns to a limited color print.

Alternative Inks

For this project, I used an alternative ink, which was neon yellow. The bright yellow light stood out against the other other objects that were black.

Series

A series of prints is a unique way to explore one subject matter or theme across several designs. I created a series (3 or more) of prints that work together and were intended to be viewed together. They tell a story that is open to interpretation
